Interview Today

I have a round two interview today at 4:00 PM with a former employer. Unfortunately, they're calling for ungodly heat and humidity here in the DC area today, which means I get to walk four blocks while wearing a suit in conditions that saunas can't duplicate.

Taking a cab for such a short distance seems absolutely ridiculous, so if you are in DC this afternoon and see a man wearing a suit walking very slowly so as to avoid sweating like Louie Anderson on stage back when he had a stand-up career, it's probably me.

Housing Bubble

A very important stat about the current housing bubble here in the US:

Over 2 million housing units are being built annually, while the number of households is only growing by 1.4 million a year.

Thanks to the hyperactively overheated DC market, my wife and I haven't been able to afford a home for a number of years now, but even if we had the resources to buy one, we've already decided we're waiting another few years. When this bubble bursts, it's going to get ugly and we refuse to be one of the families left holding a mortgage that's hundreds of thousands more than the home's real worth.

If there's any true karmic justice in the world, they people who will get hurt most will be the speculators trying to make a quick buck. Sadly, a lot of hard-working middle class families will probably get hurt as well.

I just realized what would've been the perfect username for this page: "talkingmoose." It's currently available, but at the moment I really can't afford the fee to change the username. Yes it's a sad state of affairs when I don't have that type of spare cash lying around, but an issue of the 'zine did just come out and all discretionary income (and then some) is already blown.

For those of you who need an explanation, click here. Those of you who owned Macs in the early '90s probably don't need one at all.
