History Repeating Itself... Again!

Or is it deja vu all over again? An entry from my old LJ page time-stamped "13 August 2004 @ 08:31 am":

I was just checking some entries I made a year ago, and found this little nugget from a year ago yesterday:

The fact is the way they've played over the past month they don't fucking deserve to make the playoffs. The worst part is that given the level of talent on this team, they should be running away with the wild card slot, if not actually challenging the Braves. In some ways, I'm finding this season this most disgusting and frustrating of any Phillies season in the past 10 years. At least in the past you knew it was a bad team and you could expect them to suck. This whole underachieving act is just plain aggravating and much to my dismay, I'm looking forward to the start of the NFL season -- something I didn't think I'd have to do until it actually started, not nearly 4 weeks ahead of time.

That'll teach me for allowing myself even a little optimism about this team.

Wow, just replace "the wild card slot" with "the National League East" and I could've written the exact same thing about this year's team.

I feel like I've just been inserted into a demented remake of Groundhog Day -- although admittedly I'm not as upset with this team as I was last year (or the year before.)

If nothing else, them Phillies sure are consistent.

Funny Baseball Writing

Back on Wednesday, Baseball Prospectus posted a rather humorous post which is allegedly the transcript of the Washington Nationals closed-door team meeting this past Saturday. Scroll down approximately 2/3 of the way down the page to read it. It uses some rather baseball-geek-heavy stats, but you don't need to know what they mean to get the point.

In Case of Rapture...

Apparently, Growing Pains' Mike Seaver has gone completely off of the deep end. It's both sad and funny at the same time.
