Deep Hurting, Part II

I was wrong yesterday -- I only saw about 1/3 of the Pendragon version of War of the Worlds Monday evening. Last night I hooked the iBook into the home entertainment center and watched the middle third of the film. It has gone from hysterically bad to coma-inducing boring; I have never seen a movie dare to spend so much time showing people doing nothing but travel on foot. Literally nothing else, not even dialog.

After stopping the movie last night, I checked the case and found this sucker is approximately three hours long. I'm praying to make it through the third part tonight -- I cannot believe it was possible to make a movie this long, this garishly bad and yet this boring out of what is (by today's standards) a relatively short novel.

Good News from Work

Everyone at my newish job just received the following message from the CEO:

... [O]ffices in the US will close at the end of the business day on Friday, December 23, and will open again on Tuesday, January 3. We all know the value of unencumbered time off--no Lotus Notes, no conference calls, no meetings, no deadlines--when almost everyone in the Firm can really "shut down." So, you can start planning now for an extended break in December!

I'm thinking of tacking on a few days of vacation time at the beginning and at the end of that period so I can take a nice two-week vacation.
