Back when I started Some Fantastic, I picked the domain somefantastic.us because somefantastic.org wasn't available. I was never happy with the having to use a "us" extension, but I viewed it as the best possible alternate solution. Otherwise, in order to get an "org" extension, I would have had to come up with domain name that used something other than "somefantastic." Worse still, the person who owned somefantastic.org was clearly just holding onto the site -- the home page was the type you usually see used when the owner is hoping to sell the name at a profit.

However, I persevered and just kept checking every few months to see if the owner finally just gave up and gave up his registration of the domain. Today my patience paid off; somefantastic.org was finally available to anyone to just claim. I've already paid to register it and now I'm just waiting for confirmation that it now belongs to me. As soon as it's active, I'll initially use it to direct traffic to somefantastic.us, but over the coming months I'll migrate over to the new domain.

I know that in the grand scheme of things, this is a small thing, but in my world, this is huge. After 3-1/2 years I'm finally getting the web domain I originally wanted, and it's amazing how much happiness $9.95 is bringing me right now -- it feels like I won a few hundred dollars at the slots in Atlantic City.

Just goes to show that sometimes it's the small things in life that make you happy. :-)
