Abreu's HOF Chances

Those of you who are Phillies and Yankees fans will probably get this -- other baseball fans, I'm not so sure. Yesterday, Baseball Think Factory featured a discussion regarding Bobby Abreu's HOF chances. The best thing about it was the comment that led off the discussion:

"Probably not...as his plaque would have to, like, actually touch the wall."

If he does somehow make it, maybe they could make his the first plaque to be mounted on a stand about three feet from the wall. It would only be appropriate. :-)

Curiosity

Just out of curiosity, anyone else reading this actually own an album by Mr. Bungle? I only bring it up because "Carnival" just popped up on my iPod, and as is the case anytime a song off of their self-titled debut album pops on while I have the iPod in shuffle mode, I'm thoroughly amazed that I still love this album.

Fun With Semantics

For those of you who haven't already heard the news, Chinese police beat two Japanese journalists attempting to cover a bombing in Kashgar in China's western Xinjiang region. The Japanese government plans to file a protest with the Chinese government:

"Our embassy is of course gathering information from the authorities," said Japan's top government spokesman, Nobutaka Machimura. "I believe there is no mistake, so we plan to protest strongly," he added. [emphasis added]

I just love the "protest strongly" portion of the statement. It reminds me of that scene in A Few Good Men where Lt. Wienberg (Tom Cruise) berates Lt. Cdr. Galloway (Demi Moore) for her "strenuous" objection in the court room:

"'I strenuously object?' Is that how it works? Hm? 'Objection.' 'Overruled.' 'Oh, no, no, no. No, I STRENUOUSLY object.' 'Oh. Well, if you strenuously object then I should take some time to reconsider.'"

I have a feeling that Japan's plan to "protest strongly" will be just as effective.
