SF Writers as Bloggers/Columnists

Thank goodness for this post by David Brin. It will help offset the stupidity spewed by Orson Scott Card. Unfortunately, we need a lot more SF writers to write thoughtful pieces like Brin's to negate the idiocy Card has published over the past few years.

Postscript to the Mini Rant

I would like to publicly thank Sally for keeping me honest. Last night, she pointed out to me that yesterday's mini rant omitted a rather important postscript from our visit to Borders. When I finally settled on a book, the one I chose was Annette Curtis Klause's Freaks: Alive on the Inside! Yes, a young adult fantasy novel. However, in my defense, I have always had a somewhat unexplainable fascination in freaks and their history in this country, so the book was a rather natural fit for my interests. Besides, how can you not purchase a book with the following opening line:

When a boy's first romantic interlude is with Phoebe the dog-faced girl, he feels the need to get out into the world and find a new life.

Seriously, how can one resist!? It's like zoophiila, but it's not!

I sense I may have gone too far with that last statement. {looking around sheepishly}

On another note, I realized after writing that post yesterday that in a previous trip to Borders I had already purchased Bitter Angels. Clearly, the urban fantasy-esque cover didn't bother me at that time.
