Why Can't Us?

Okay, I must admit that the second the home run left Joe Blanton's bat, I found myself suddenly needing to actively stifle my optimism. I'm thinking it just might actually happen, and I have to throttle the enthusiasm because losing this World Series after taking a 3-1 lead would be a brutal disappointment far worse than what I experienced after Game 4 back in '93. Yes, I will keep the optimism tightly in check as long as is necessary.

Now that I've said all that, I have to say that Marie is definitely undergoing a trial by fire early in our relationship. She's put up with positively bipolar behavior from me as I've followed the Phillies through this postseason -- even going so far as to watch some of the games with me. She deserves some sort of blue star for putting up with me during this time.

So, despite my keeping the optimism in check, I am nonetheless eagerly looking forward to tomorrow night's game. I'll be crossing my fingers tight all day tomorrow.
