A Very Important Announcement

I choose this moment to announce that I will never create a Twitter account. I'm turning 37 in less than four weeks, and I've decided that this will be the time I embrace my inner old man. So, to all you kids who have Twitter accounts, get off my lawn and turn down that god-damn noise you call music. {Shakes first angrily in the air and pulls waistband of jeans as far over the belly as possible.}

Thank you. I appreciate all the support I can get while I enter codger-dom.

Stéphane said something to that effect when he turned 39 earlier this month. It's catching.

Hmmmm, I wonder when men in general start deciding they are no longer going to keep up with the technological curve. Right now, the anecdotal evidence -- Stephane and me -- says late 30s. :-)

I don't know. Most of my male twitter friends are in their 30s. What I do know, for Stéphane anyway, is that he says he has already gone through mid-life crisis and has decided he is no longuer young. And he thinks that online social networking is pointless.

You're square, gramps.

Yeah. You think I'm square now? What till you hear what Tank says about me in 10 years. :-)

Re: Welcome to Alter Kocker-dom!
I don't know if I've reached my Luddite limit just yet. However, I know I've reached my limit in terms of annoying social networking applications and websites that I have the time and energy to learn and keep up with.

LJ, IMing (when I bother to turn on AIM or Yahoo IM) and Facebook seem more than sufficient to me.

The short burst aspect of Twitter annoys me to my wordy core. Give me a couple years and I might give in, but for now I'll join you with the cantankerousness and Matlock watching.

I think that's the thing that annoys me most. Over the course of a few days, I would rather make one post (even a short one) that actually conveys a complete thought and some background for it rather than a bunch of random bursts that don't seem very connected.
