"Archival" Quality

I'm saving the link more for my own benefit than anything else, but those of you who have baseball card and/or comic book collections meticulously stored away in sheets of Mylar may want to think twice about how just how archival safe Mylar really is. The Slate article I'm linking to doesn't actually address Mylar, but it does point out that over the years there have been a lot of plastics declared as archival quality that ultimately fell apart with age.

I need to do some more research, but I wonder if the best way to be storing my collection is to just leave the cards in properly designed cardboard boxes and handle them very carefully when I want to look at the cards.
