The Transfer Begins

It's official... I am now in the process of transferring over to Dreamwidth from LJ. In an ideal world I would persevere with the site that I have spent most of the last eight years selectively posting the details of my life while the site attempts to maintain its presence online. However, this is not an ideal world, and I am not a perfect person.

I have set up my account on Dreamwidth so that all my posts will cross-post to LJ. In addition, I will continue to access LJ to read posts from friends who are still active over there. However, at some point in the next few weeks I will turn off comments to the cross-posts over here and insist that anyone who wants to comment on a post I've written do so on Dreamwidth. I hate doing this, but I want to use a site that I feel will be reliably accessible when I want to use it. LJ no longer feels that way to me.

I have a DW that I only use to follow my friends who have moved. Can I add you there?

Absolutely -- please do. :-)

I have a DW account...I just never use it! (Same there as it is here)

What's the problem with LJ exactly? I have recently come back to posting and other than the fact it's no longer paid (and I now have all these stupid ads), I haven't noticed too much difference.

LJ has been suffering from a series of denial of service attacks that have rendered the site unusable for large parts of the past few weeks (the attacks were related to events in Russia, where LiveJournal is the most popular blogging site in the country). Things seem to have stabilized again over the past 4-5 days, but I'm not convinced yet that it's all over.
